About Me
Hello, I’m Gretchen. Thank you for your interest in “Olivette.” I have spent the past 30+ years enjoying working with children in a variety of ways and settings. For the past 4 years it has been my great pleasure to create/facilitate “Olivette.” I also somewhat recently engaged in 3 years of study of Charlotte Mason education under Prov.en.der’s “Cultivator” and “Sojourn” programs. Previous to this, I have taught 10+ years in Early Childhood Education settings, primarily in the 4-5 yr. old Preschool programs at both the JCC Nursery School & Keshet Preschool (@ Jewish Temple Beth El). Additionally, I along with my husband, facilitated the education of our four (now adult) children in their varied homeschool, public and private school experiences. I have varied other professional training in education -through courses, conferences, workshops, and in teaching experiences in elementary school settings, co-ops, and children’s faith formation classes. Through them all I have found the wisdom, inspiration and deeply thought through philosophy and pedagogy that Charlotte Mason articulated and practiced among thousands of children to remain tried and true and mostly timeless! Previous to my education training I received a BSW degree and have 1 yr. Nursing school training. Further specific information is available if interested.
What is Relational Education?
Relational Education found at the heart of renown educator Charlotte Mason’s philosophy and practices/pedagogy, is in short, an approach that views education as the formation of living relationships between the student and ideas, the natural world, lands far and near, great books/ literature, persons past and present, and ultimately our Creator.
A Relational Education approach emphasizes meaningful engagement so that knowledge becomes personal, connected, and transformative, rather than the mere transfer of information.
“I am part of all that I have met”

Our Ethos
Olivette’s ethos is rooted in devotion to Judeo-Christian values,
and nurtures a hospitable place for children
to gently encounter and be inspired by this Source.
We seek to anchor and root children in their identity and sacred personhood
while orienting them towards a thriving and full life in relation to others,
the world around them, and their Creator.
